I’m always looking for new music, and when I happened to stumble upon Captain Cuts, a three-person group that specializes in the writing and production of music in Los Angeles I was very intrigued. They’ve worked with Marina and The Diamonds, The Mowglis, and Halsey! (To name a few)
The track I found is called “If You’re Listening It’s Never Too Late”. This is a 31 minute and 45-second mixtape that mashes pop, hip-hop, rock, rap, and alternative hits into one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. When I started listening I was excited to see what I was committing myself to-31 minutes of music.

The song starts with the peaceful sound of crickets chirping, the “ding” of a car signaling that the seatbelt isn’t buckled, and the words “This is the first song for your mixtape”. The dreamy electronic beat builds until the drop when the tune completely changes into the guitar instrumental from “Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye featuring Kimbra. From there the mixtape incorporates:

Hands down, my absolute favorite part is at 11:46 when all sound cuts off and you hear one single note that chills you to the core. It’s the intro of “Welcome To The Black Parade”. When I listened to it for the first time I swear I was holding my breath. Then, suddenly Fetty Wapp’s “Trap Queen” starts and it fits perfectly. Then there’s the kicker, “All The Small Things” by Blink 182 gets thrown into the mix and the three songs sound fantastic together and you would never have thought that they would work together so wonderfully. It’s pretty safe to say that I cried when I heard it for the first time.
I highly recommend sitting down and listening to the entire mixtape because it is truly an experience. I’m absolutely in love with it!
