Ryan Adams: 1989 Cover Album

I have been listening to this album on repeat for 2 weeks and I swear was going to write about it last week. I just got busy. David Ryan Adams otherwise known simply as Ryan Adams has been on the music scene since 1991 when he began performing in local bands. He has since released 15 studio albums (WOW) and founded his own record label called PAX-AM.

A lot of hype was created while this album was being produced and recorded. Taylor Swift herself was in a state of disbelief after hearing a rumor that Adams would be covering every song on her latest album. She tweeted “is this true??????? I WILL PASS OUT.” and when Ryan confirmed it by tweeting back to her she cooly responded with “Cool I’m not gonna be able to sleep tonight or ever again and I’m going to celebrate today every year as a holiday. I’M CALM”.

After teasing us by releasing “Bad Blood” as a single the entire album was finally released on September 21. The instant I heard it was out I pulled it up on Spotify and started listening. I had a 9 am class the next morning, but my sleep dropped to second on my list of priorities. As I sat on my futon in my dorm room Ryan Adam’s sweet, soft voice lulled me into a dreamy world of new songs I already knew the lyrics to.

I love this album so much because its an insanely original take on songs that could already stand on their own. Taylor’s album sold 1.287 MILLION copies in the first week alone and her album tour has become a business within itself. These songs were already their own, solid thing before Ryan Adams covered them and he did such a fantastic job at creating something individual and original.

My favorite songs off the album are “Out Of The Woods”, “I Wish You Would” and “This Love”. His voice is honestly PERFECT. One thing I really enjoy is the dynamic between acoustic and electric guitar in a single song together. I like that the sounds of the electric and acoustic guitars compliment and almost harmonize with each other while surrounding his soft voice amazingly.

If you haven’t listened to the album yet I’m telling you that you have to. It’s your homework. I’ve been making my friends and people I work with listen to it since it came out and I can’t get enough of it! My hat goes off to Taylor Swift and Ryan Adams for making such incredible music.
