On Wednesday night my dad took me to see The Rolling Stones (rollingstonesofficial) and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life!!! I had the absolute best time and I still haven’t fully gotten over the thrill of it all! I love classic rock and these guys are definitely classic! If you haven’t heard of The Stones you’ve either been living under a rock since the 1960s or you were born yesterday.
I chose to wear a crop top and jeans with wedge heels to the concert and it was the perfect outfit! Sometimes I worry that I’ll be too hot or too cold the outfit I choose, but this was perfect. The top says “Flowers in my hair & rock and roll in my soul” which I thought was pretty fitting since I was going to a rock concert. I was probably one of the youngest people at the show, but that didn’t stop me from having the time of my life!
Before the show we went to Cheli’s Chili Bar. The restaurant is owned by former Detroit Red Wings player, Chirs Chelios, and both parking lots were equipped with a station to order food, bars, and Rolling Stone music was blasting from multiple speakers. The Stones weren’t set to take the stage until around 9:00-9:30 so we had quite a bit of time to eat, enjoy the music, and people watch.
When we finally got into the stadium we made our way to our seats and we were way closer than I had thought! There was a floor level and then there was us and I was beyond excited! I had told my dad that I would have been happy if I was in the last row in the whole stadium; that I just wanted to hear them and experience them. I started freaking out and jumping around because they were THE ROLLING STONES! How can you not freak out about them?!

Everything about the concert was perfect. From Mick’s endless supply of sparkly jackets to the the abundant amount of energy that rocketed off the stage. One thing I really enjoyed was when they sang “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)” by The Temptations: A Motown band. Since Detroit is the birthplace of Motown music I really liked that they paid tribute to it.
Another thing I really enjoyed was the band introductions! Most bands say something along the lines of “give it up for Bob on the piano!” or “let’s hear it for Michelle and Katherine on back up vocals!” At this concert Mick introduced every single person on stage by their full names as they took center stage and bowed. I thought that was very cool because they recognized that all of these individual efforts blend together to create a team of performers.
The Stones first show in Detroit was way back in 1964 and they performed for about 300 people. Since that show they have come back to Detroit 17 times and their audience size has grown immensely. Their music reaches the ears of people who loved them when they were first starting out, and their music reaches the ears of people like me who are astonished by the amount of history that has been poured into a single band. At my concert I said to my dad “They’re walking pieces of history!” and I truly believe that!
I also really liked when the band came back for an encore and sang “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” with the help of the Oakland University Chorale. I liked that they incorporated this local University Choir into their show. It made for a very unique experience.
The band ended their show with their hit song (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction and I haven’t been able to stop singing it since! I had the best time at this concert and I think that the rock group is amazing! All these guys are over seventy years old and they are still jumping around the stage and dancing and having the time of their lives! I love that! You can see a little bit of Mick’s fabulous dancing skills in the video above and that is just a snippet of the dancing that the show was FILLED with. The band even skipped down the stage and it was really evident that even after all these years they adore what they do.
