I’ve died and gone to Heaven. The 1975′s ( @the1975music ) new album has been playing on a constant repeat since it became available on Spotify and I’m not even sorry about it. I think I’ve listened to one non-1975 song since the 11th and I show no sign of pausing this album anytime soon.
The band’s second studio album has been built up over the past few months and it truly lives up to everything that was promised. It is very apparent that the band is incredibly proud of this album, and for good reason! It is a true work of art! I have always thought of The 1975′s first, self-titled album as a continuous thought-an “experience album” that you have to sit down and listen to all the way through in order. This is the same. With songs that flow beautifully into and out of each other and tunes that sound eerily similar, the entire album’s theme is filled with love, regret, and bittersweetness.

Every time I listen to the album I find a new favorite song, so it’s impossible to say which song I absolutely love the most, but I can give you my favorite tracks. (plural :p)
Somebody Else
Released as a single I’ve been hooked on this song since before the album was even released. This moody, upbeat, ballad that flirts with the line between love and hate has hit me in my emotions on countless accounts. The beat makes me think I’m walking down a runway when I’m simply walking down a snow-covered sidewalk on my way to class.
A Change Of Heart
To put it simply, this song is fantastic. I see it as a response to the band’s first album and I absolutely love it. With the line “You used to have a face straight out of a magazine, now you just look like anyone. I’ve just had a change of heart.” relates to the song Robbers in which Matty croons “she had a face straight out a magazine, God only knows but you’ll never leave her.”. Furthermore the line “We never found love in the city” responds to their song The City where it is repeated that “if you want to find love you know where the city is. I just think it’s cool that the band would respond to loose ends from their first album.
Nana
I get close to tears every time I listen to this song. I’m not even kidding. Each time I listen to it I have different thoughts. Sometimes I listen to it and I’m like “yes, of course, this is about somebody’s grandmother and he misses her.” but other times I think “No, this is completely about a romance that didn’t end up working out.” I think you have to listen to it for yourself to try and determine which side you stand on. Either way, it’s a gorgeous song.
She Lays Down
Where to begin. This song is stunningly sad. It’s simple and acoustic and it tells the story of a girl who has a hard life filled with drugs, struggles, and pain. I love songs that tell stories like this one. I can’t tell if it’s exactly a love song, but there is romance connected to it.
