Music From Movies

While watching movies I am always intrigued by the music playing in the background. Some tunes get stuck in my head for hours even after the movie has ended, and I enjoy them so much that I listen to the entire score on spotify for days. I really like to listen to movie soundtracks while I’m studying because the melodies are not too distracting, but they keep me calm and relaxed.

Here are a few movies with scores that I absolutely adore.

The Great Gatsby: The entire music selection for this movie is beautiful, and I love every bit of it. I really like how in Craig Armstrong’s score he keeps coming back to the melody of Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful” throughout the movie. Both the Orchestral Score and the Soundtrack are amazing, and I really enjoy the modern music even though the film is set in the 20’s.

Peter Pan: In the live action Peter Pan movie the music is simply magical. When I am listening to the soundtrack I can see what is happening in the movie at that exact moment (it’s one of my favorite movies). James Newton Howard did a wonderful job composing the music for the movie.

Les Choristes: I watched this movie in my French Class a few years ago and fell in love instantly. The movie is set at a boarding school for “troubled” boys. When a new teacher comes to the school he teaches the boys how to sing in a choir and the product is really beautiful. The score was composed by Bruno Coulais and his work was fantastic. The songs where the boys sing in the chorus are so sweet and I could listen to them all day long.

I love listening to the music from movies because they have the ability to make you feel any and every emotion. These songs are perfectly composed to bring people to tears, or cause joy. What are you favorite movie scores? I really enjoyed writing this week’s blogpost and I can’t wait for next week!
